Raleigh runs on infrastructure nobody thinks about until it fails: structured cabling, fire alarm panels, intrusion and access systems, IT and security operations. Militech International serves the Raleigh market from our Cary base, about twenty minutes from downtown.

The commercial landscape splits into a few distinct worlds. The government corridor downtown, the corporate offices around North Hills and Glenwood South, the medical and professional buildings near WakeMed and Rex, and the warehouse and flex space out toward the beltline. Each of them asks for something different.

Raleigh’s real complication is building age

Raleigh is the Triangle city where you are most likely to work in a building older than the code that governs it. Downtown has commercial stock going back a century, sitting a block away from mid-rise construction finished last year. The two are not the same job in any respect that matters.

In an older downtown building there is often no usable pathway. Plaster and masonry instead of accessible ceilings, no conduit where you need it, risers that were added decades after the building went up and are already full. Fire alarm retrofits in that stock are the hardest work we do, because the building cannot close, the wiring is undocumented, and the AHJ is looking closely precisely because the building is old.

In new North Hills mid-rise, the constraints invert. Pathways exist and are documented, but you are one of six trades sharing them on a schedule that has no float, and the coordination is most of the job.

What we do here

Commercial low-voltage installs, alarm and fire alarm work, and ongoing IT and cybersecurity for property managers, general contractors, and direct end-users.

Property managers are the most common Raleigh customer, and the job for them is mostly life-safety inspections and the deficiencies those inspections produce. A manager with eight buildings does not want eight contractors and eight report formats. Consolidating that is a large part of what we do here.

Permitting

Raleigh and Wake County both have a hand in commercial permitting depending on where a building sits and what is being done, and the split is not always obvious from the address. Getting that wrong costs weeks, not days. We file the submittals and deal with plan review directly rather than routing it through you.
